Dictate for Mac
Speak, and your words appear where you type. Dictate transcribes speech on your Mac using downloadable speech models.
Getting started
- Open Dictate and follow setup to allow microphone access.
- The global recording shortcut needs no keyboard permission. For optional automatic paste, review paste access under Accessibility in macOS System Settings.
- Download the speech model. The first preparation may take a few minutes.
- Press Control–Option–D, speak, then press it again. You can change the shortcut in Settings.
Dictate Pro
Try all features with 20 successful dictations. Dictate Pro unlocks unlimited dictation with a one-time in-app purchase. The App Store displays your local price before you confirm. There is no subscription.
The shortcut or automatic paste does not work
If the shortcut is unavailable, choose another combination in Dictate Settings → Dictation. Another app or the system may reserve it. For automatic paste, open Dictate Settings → General → Permissions and review Accessibility in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Without paste access, record with your shortcut or the menu and paste the transcript manually.
The model will not download
Check your internet connection and available storage. Reopen setup to retry. The initial model download requires an internet connection; speech recognition runs on your Mac afterward.
Restore a purchase
Use the same Apple Account as for your original purchase. Open Dictate Settings → General → Restore purchases. If the purchase is still missing, contact support with the App Store order reference. Never send passwords or payment-card details.
Privacy and contact
Audio and transcripts stay on your Mac. Apple and RevenueCat handle purchases. Read the privacy policy and terms of use.
